We are participating in the National Science Foundation funded Ornis project to georeference bird specimen localities from 43 institutions, allowing mapping of specimen distributions and retrieval of data.

Thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation, we have replaced all of our old study skin and egg specimen cases with new archival quality cases, including acid free paper, new case and drawer labels, and new egg boxes. We moved the specimens starting in July 2003 and finished in April 2005. See images below.

Our first shipment of new cases arrived in a big rig. David and Andy, the muscle!

Andy, Janet and other helpers are actively transferring birds between the old and new cases: Cold water pipes have been run and the ducts are being put into place for the new air conditioning units.

Our air conditioners are installed. We have received four more shipments of cases and are nearing completion of the moving phase. Many thanks to our student workers over the last year! Our work now progresses to finishing reboxing and moving the egg collection, and making drawer and case labels.
